Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum

I want to make something very, VERY clear to those of us who, in this election, held true to the principles upon which this country was founded:

-          If you think that you can now sit back and watch this administration unfold, if you think that the Statist movement, once the protests and riots are over, has been stopped, if you think that the media will turn over a new leaf and begin TRULY unbiased reporting, if you think that “the establishment” has learned its lesson and will now act on behalf of the people…

-          If you think that Republicans have a slam dunk, because they hold majorities in both houses…

-          If you think that the Second Amendment is no longer threatened, if you believe that the First Amendment is no longer threatened; if you believe that The Constitution is no longer threatened…

-          If you believe that the SCOTUS pick is secure now, and we’ll move back to a balanced court…

If you believe ANY of these things, I have a question for you:

WHY DID YOU BOTHER VOTING?

Jefferson said, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.”

He also said, “Eternal vigilance is the price of Liberty.”

The ONLY thing won, thus far, is the vote itself. One small victory for Constitutional principles amidst 60+ years of Statist encroachment.

This fight…hasn’t even begun.

And YOU had better be prepared for it.

And YOU had better show the kind of stuff you showed during the election season.

Or else, YOU will lose.

The majority and minority.....

THE MAJORITY AND THE MINORITY

Folks on BOTH sides of the aisle seem to have the same, largely incorrect, notion about “the majority” in the Legislative and Executive branches of government.

Yes, a majority IS a majority. BUT it does NOT mean that “the minority” has no say, no power and no ability to either pass or block an agenda.

In fact, Congress works much like the Electoral College in that rules are set up for the specific purpose of giving voice and power TO that minority.

The Electoral College ensures that EVERY state has a say in our election process. With a purely democratic vote (popular vote), the majority will rule….EVERY TIME. In elections, it means that the highest-population centers would control the outcome of EVERY election; the smaller population centers…the smaller states….would have NO voice, ever.

In Congress, Congressional rules function the same way, giving power and voice to the minority party. (Think: filibuster).

So, Republicans now have the majority, in Congress as well as the Executive branch. Does that mean that whatever they say, goes? Nope. Sorry. Democrats, as the minority, have enormous power to even out the playing field.

There’s an old saying that goes: Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.”

This saying applies equally to the Second Amendment, the Electoral College AND Congressional rules.

More Liberal nonsense...

Sometimes, I guess, you have to figure out SOMETHING….ANYTHING…..that might…hopefully….derail the mounting evidence…..

Although I’ve heard it from time to time for several years now, I’m hearing it CONSTANTLY these days:

“The Republicans and Democrats have ‘switched sides’”.

This is now THE reaction to anyone bringing up Democrat’s role in slavery, the (anti) Suffrage movement, the (anti) Civil Rights movement, Jim Crow laws, creation of the Ku Klux Klan, etc….

And, I’ll be honest….if I’m a Democrat, I’m RUNNING….SCREAMING….away from the factual history of my Party! Cuz……you know……GEEEEEEZZ!

But, let’s be clear: The two Parties HAVEN’T changed sides.

What HAS happened:

-          The Republican Party has become the new “Whig Party”. (The Whig Party was the “anti-slavery” party….at least, in name and platform. Their problem: ZERO action was taken by the Whigs to stop slavery. Ultimately, this is what caused their demise; another minor Party, the Republican Party, running on a platform of abolishing slavery, succeeded in getting their second candidate elected to the Presidency). Today, while their platform professes “pro-life” (anti-abortion), the Republican Party takes only minor steps in seeking the abolition of this human rights issue. They have become the “New Whig Party”.

-          The Democrat Party remains exactly the same. Once, their rally cry was “SLAVERY!”. Then “NO SUFFRAGE!”. Then “NO CIVIL RIGHTS!”.

Yadda yadda yadda….

Throughout THEIR history, the Democrat Party has a CLEAR track record of discrimination…..LEGISLATED discrimination. And that track record continues to this very day. (Of COURSE they realize this….why else do you think they are claiming the side switching???!!)

The current rally cry: “ABORTION!!!!”  “AFFIRMATIVE ACTION!!”  “EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH (…and Government-funded, too)!!!”  “HATE CRIME LAWS!!!!”    ALL of these laws are inherently discriminatory, since they….LEGISLATIVELY…..single out a group or groups of people (whether based on stage of life, ethnicity, etc) and design laws that either directly benefit or negatively-target those respective groups. Discrimination…..legislated.

No, the parties haven’t “switched sides”; they’re merely proving that history, indeed, DOES repeat.

The Second Amendment

Let’s say, for a moment, that “The Donald” DOES turn out to be the modern incarnation of Hitler/Stalin/Mao; that he is able, somehow, to render the Constitution, the courts and Congress meaningless…

Just how relevant will the words of our Framers be:

"Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are ruined.... The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able might have a gun."
- Patrick Henry, Speech to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 5, 1778

"The right of the citizens to keep and bear arms has justly been considered, as the palladium of the liberties of a republic; since it offers a strong moral check against the usurpation and arbitrary power of rulers; and will generally, even if these are successful in the first instance, enable the people to resist and triumph over them."
- Joseph Story, Commentaries on the Constitution of the United States, 1833

Just how important, at that point, will The Second Amendment be?

IT'LL BE YOUR OWN DAMNED FAULT!

My wishes for this (and every) election:

-          For every eligible person to exercise their civic duty……and VOTE!

-          For every person, eligible to vote, to DO THEIR HOMEWORK on candidates and issues; to take as dispassionate-as-possible stance, weighing all sides of the argument. With non-partisan sites like “Project Vote Smart” (http://votesmart.org/) and “Citizens Against Government Waste” (http://www.cagw.org/), both of which are simple to navigate, there is NO REASON for voters NOT to read up and weigh the benefits and detriments of all candidates.  Issues (ballot measures, judges, etc) are a bit more difficult to research, BUT the information IS out there; instead of soundbyte decision-making, how about read the text of the proposals, then read arguments from ALL sides.

-          Then……and arguably the most important thing: Irrespective of who wins (the White House or any Congressional seat), for ALL Americans to watch them like hawks! EVEN if your candidate(s) are the winners, hold them to accountable for EVERYTHING…..EVERY SINGLE DAY, EVERY SINGLE DECISION!

Alexis de Toqueville said, “In a democracy, people get the government they deserve”, so if we are unhappy, disgusted, angry and frustrated with the direction of our country and our elected officials…..guess what?

IT’S OUR OWN DAMNED FAULT!

Thought for the day....

Since "God" can neither be scientifically proven nor disproven, atheism requires exactly as much faith as religion.

Have a nice day.

A tax proposal

A proposal for a change in income tax:

How about we pass a law that, instead of personal income tax, Social Security tax, along with all other taxes which are normally, autmatically, deducted from each paycheck, how about, with each paycheck, we receive 100% of our money.

Then, once or twice/month (your choice), the government sends us an e-billing for each of the various taxes due.
...
This make NO changes in the amount of taxes collected. It merely changes the WAY we pay our taxes.

Thoughts?

57 MILLION and counting.....

On this, the anniversary of the 1973 “Roe” decision (referred to, at the time, by his own staff, as “Blackmun’s abortion”), I’d like to say “thanks” to President Obama and ALL Democrats for, only recently, opening a door for those of us working to end abortion.

Recently, the President took on the task of degrading The Second Amendment; and he did it through executive action, bypassing Congress. All the while, he, along with the Democrat Party and the media, assured Americans that these actions were entirely within Constitutional law (Obama’s a Constitutional lawyer, remember….).

But, what Obama accomplished, through his executive action was actually two things:

1.      He federalized a “states rights” issue (the application of certain parts of the law, as they apply to The Second Amendment), and…

2.      Opened “Pandora’s Box” for advocates of the “Right to Life” movement.

What Obama DIDN’T accomplish, interestingly, in his executive action was save any lives; since none of his actions would have either prevented, nor WILL prevent, crime.

It’s the “Pandora’s Box” problem that should be of great interest to the Pro-life movement.

 Why?

Consider: In claiming that this recent executive action is entirely in keeping with The Constitution, the door is now open for any future President to take similar executive action.

Let’s take……oh……..abortion, for example.

A President could, through executive action, entirely in “keeping with The Constitution”:

-          Require, federally, a “cooling off period” of, say, 10 days.

-          Require, federally, a mandatory class and certificate of completion (attendees must pass a written test) before receiving an abortion (this certificate is subject to expiration)

-          Require ALL providers of abortions, irrespective of number of abortions performed, to be licensed, specifically and federally, on abortion procedures (this is in additional to a Medical Doctorate, and is subject to annual renewal, based on quality of practice)

I imagine, also, that part of that executive order could require the law be dialed back to its original language (no abortions after first trimester).

At his State of the Union address, the President left one seat vacant, representing those killed by gun violence.

Perhaps a future President will do the same for those FIFTY SEVEN MILLION who never had a chance to be born…

A question for Liberals....

If Planned Parenthood and Liberals, in general, REALLY care about women and "single mothers", why aren't they splitting the profits from the sale of unborn-childrens'-body-parts with them?

Saturday, August 1, 2015

It occurs to me......

.....that Liberals who advocate the hunting-down and killing of the guy who killed that lion (I'll use its name just as soon as they start naming aborted fetuses...) and did so legally (still being investigated),  publishing his address and cell number, sending him death threats, etc.....

....should probably keep in mind that abortion is legal, too (though many of the circumstances of those acts are investigated as to their legality)...

In fact, Conservatives, as well, should keep this in mind.
