My wishes
for this (and every) election:
-
For every eligible person to exercise their civic
duty……and VOTE!
-
For every person, eligible to vote, to DO THEIR
HOMEWORK on candidates and issues; to take as dispassionate-as-possible stance,
weighing all sides of the argument. With non-partisan sites like “Project Vote
Smart” (http://votesmart.org/) and
“Citizens Against Government Waste” (http://www.cagw.org/), both
of which are simple to navigate, there is NO REASON for voters NOT to read up
and weigh the benefits and detriments of all candidates. Issues (ballot measures, judges, etc) are a
bit more difficult to research, BUT the information IS out there; instead of
soundbyte decision-making, how about read the text of the proposals, then read
arguments from ALL sides.
-
Then……and arguably the most important thing:
Irrespective of who wins (the White House or any Congressional seat), for ALL
Americans to watch them like hawks! EVEN if your candidate(s) are the winners,
hold them to accountable for EVERYTHING…..EVERY SINGLE DAY, EVERY SINGLE
DECISION!
Alexis
de Toqueville said, “In a democracy, people get the government they deserve”,
so if we are unhappy, disgusted, angry and frustrated with the direction of our
country and our elected officials…..guess what?
IT’S OUR
OWN DAMNED FAULT!
